Camping in Minnesota State Forests

Camping in Minnesota State Forests offer a large number of activities, like swimming, fishing, hiking along with camping. There are options of hunting camps and summer camps for the people. Minnesota has 58 state forests which covers approximately 4 million acres.

Camping in Minnesota State Forests is really a great experience due as the state provides:

  • 17 canoe and boating route campsites

Campsites for Camping in Minnesota State Forests consist of fire ring, table and cleared area. Vault toilets, drinking water facilities, and garbage containers are also available, though it is chargeable. While Camping in Minnesota State Forests, tourists can avail hiking trails; beaches are also available for swimming. There has been reconstruction of the popular camping forests to provide new facilities, like development of group camping areas, for which a camping fee is charged.

Campgrounds of state forests are not equipped with showers or electric hookups and hand-pumped wells are provided for drinking water. Level approach and concrete pads are there in accessible wells.

Some of the camping sites are free. These are located in remote places with boat-in sites which are mainly used by berry pickers and hunters. Other amenities are not available in these areas.

While Camping in Minnesota State Forests, tourists can avail the developed features in 34 campgrounds like drinking water, picnic tables, fire rings, toilets and most importantly, parking spurs. Beaches for swimming, nature trails and boat accesses are also available in many of the campgrounds. Camping fee is charged, though reservations are not accepted over here, as it is not required.
