State Symbols of Minnesota

Like most other states in the world, there are many state symbols of Minnesota. These symbols of the state of Minnesota are typical of the state and symbolizes the various aspects of the state. This distinct expressive quality of the state symbols of Minnesota are used in various aspects of the life in Minnesota. Each state symbols of Minnesota symbolizes a different aspect of the state.

Common Loon (Gavia Immer) is symbol of the state bird of Minnesota. It was in the year 1961, that Common Loon came to be known as the state bird of Minnesota. These birds are large in size and are of black and white in color and has red eyes.

The Monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus) is the symbol of the state butterfly of Minnesota in USA. This butterfly is otherwise known as milkweed butterfly. Like migrating birds, Monarch butterfly of Minnesota also travels from north to south. Milk was officially adopted as the state drink of Minnesota in the year 1984. every year Minnesota produces about 9.7 billion pounds of milk, which is almost 6% of the total milk production in the whole country. Walleye was officially announced as the state fish of Minnesota in the year 1965. This fish is very popular among the people and can be seen in the lakes and rivers.

Pink and White Lady's Slipper (Cypripedium reginae) was officially made the state flower of Minnesota in the year 1902. This flower is otherwise known as showy lady's slipper or queen's lady slipper. This flower is found mostly in open spaces, where enough light can be seen. They generally bloom in late or early July. The Norway Pine or Red Pine is officially the state tree of Minnesota. They are generally huge in size and also grows to a great height.
