Economy of Minnesota

Minnesota produces the largest amount of iron ore in the whole of United States. The total economy of Minnesota depends a lot upon the production of iron ore in this region. Depending upon the iron ore produced in this region, many industries have been set up. Iron ores of all kinds, cheap as well as, expensive can be had from here. With these low-grade and high-grade iron ores, regular exports are done to various parts of the country.

This strengthens the economy of Minnesota. Apart from iron ore there are other metallic ores which are equally important in the economy in Minnesota. Granite, from the St. Cloud region, gravel and sand also constitutes a major share of the total number of industries in Minnesota. Industries based upon these are the largest industries in Minnesota.

Economy is also strengthened from the production in the agricultural sector. Earlier wheat was the major crop in Minnesota but now the bumper production of soybeans, corn and other livestock items have taken over wheat. Infact, these crops are produced in surplus and thus has resulted in establishing many industries depending upon the bumper production of this crop. Even in dairy products, Minnesota ranks top. The dairy products of Minnesota, dry milk, creamy butter, sweet corn and cheese has a big market all over the United States. This gives a strong boost to the economy of Minnesota.

There are machine producing industries too in Minnesota which manufactures electronic goods, machine parts, chemicals, paper products. There are some small scale industries in Minnesota too, which produces clay, stone and glass products. In terms of producing computer related electronic parts and other high-quality electronic items has also strengthened Minnesota economy. Printing and publishing is also highly developed here. All these items together have come forward to strengthen the economic structure in Minnesota.
