North West Company Fur Post in Minnesota

Located in Pine City, North West Company Fur Post in Minnesota is within 1.5 miles to the west of Interstate-35 at exit 169 of Pine County Highway 7. Explore the new visitor center into the modeled world of 1804, where you are invited to halt at the Ojibwe encampment and know about how the seasonal existence of the Ojibwe altered with the arrival of the Europeans. The visitor center houses the memorial exhibit gallery of Senator Janet B. Johnson. The 3600 sq. ft gallery surveys the depths of the story of fur trade, the first prime industry of Minnesota. The visitor center also includes a Great Room and a hearth.

At North West Company Fur Post in Minnesota, you can also explore the rebuilt family lodge of Little Horn and get to know about the significant role that the Ojibwe natives played in the Minnesota fur trade. In the encampment you can take part in any of the numerous projects carried out throughout the season. A costumed guide will lead you along the trails to the rebuilt Wintering Post which was meant for the North West Company. There, learn from a fur trade clerk about the barter system that took beaver fur from an Indian hunter’s hand onto the head of a stylish European. A visitor to the North West Company Fur Post in Minnesota can explain the way he spent his time in the winter working or how eagerly he is waiting for his summer trip to the north shore. The Wintering Post was cleared within 6 weeks only and the 8 voyagers raised the flagpole for indicating the completion of the task of building their winter abode. The North West Company Fur Post in Minnesota also provides 1.5 miles of tracks across the woods and along the meandering Snake River.
