Fort Ridgeley in Minnesota

Fort Ridgeley in Minnesota gained its fame as the witness of the famous U.S– Dakota war in 1862. The site is known among Minnesota state historic sites that unveil the historical past of the state to the travelers of modern day.

The Fort Ridgeley in Minnesota relates back to the story of 1851 that reveals the yield of Dakota to US government. The result was that Dakota had to shift to the Minnesota river. The year 1853 saw the building of Fort Ridgeley in Minnesota by the army of U.S.A. The fort was then planned to be activated as a police station for keeping peace in the area.


But the promises were not maintained. Finally, malpractices and tortures of the fur traders along with crop crisis, burst out into the form of great war of U.S– Dakota, August 1862. The Fort Ridgeley in Minnesota was attacked by the Dakota forces on twenty and twenty second of August, 1862. This resulted in rendering the fort as a military fort in the west of the Mississippi.

This Fort Ridgeley in Minnesota serves as one of the unique attractions of Minnesota. It is located seven miles of southern Fairfax. The site remains open for the season of summer only.
