Minnesota State Legislature

The Minnesota State Legislature is basically a legislative branch of the government of Minnesota. Minnesota State Legislature is a bicameral form of legislature body and it is housed at the Minnesota Capitol, Saint Paul. Minnesota House of Representatives and the Minnesota Senate are the two sections of the Minnesota State Legislature and the House has got 134 seats whereas the Senate houses only 67 members. Initially, the Minnesota State Legislature had control over the city charters. Thus, we can opine that the power of the Minnesota legislative body is limited. This has led to several controversies and some government people are still trying to revive the lost power of the Minnesota State Legislature.

From 1913 onwards the Minnesota State Legislators are elected on the basis of the result of non partisan ballots. The Minnesota State Legislature is aware about the changes in the American socio, political and cultural scenario and it is trying its best to frame policies and pass laws of contemporary flavor. Thus, at this juncture we can say that the Minnesota State Legislature is a highly modern legislature body which is focusing on the relevant laws of today. In 1984, the legislature ordered to remove the gender specific pronouns from all the state laws documents. We are no more living in “his” world. And that is why, the word”his” was changed 1000 times and “he” was changed 6, 000 times in state laws.

This incident is surely a revolutionary one. Very few legislatures would actually order for this change even today. The Minnesota State Legislature is vested with the responsibility of framing fiscal policies and passing of the budget is the most significant one. The legislative body plays an important role in sanctioning the state bills which are again turned to laws.
